thankful

*
*
Autumn’s Paintbrush
It’s that golden moment
When the day nears quiet dusk,
And the mountains glow with an autumn sheen
In their vermilions and rust.

At this inlaid moment
Oh, fleeting is the sun.
The crags turn yellow then rose then brown
And twilight has nearly won.

I gaze outside the window pane
And at Midas’ touch I wonder
Cannot yet this moment wax
And stay a while longer?

How thankful I am for the eyes that I have to behold the beauty of God's hand. We have been told to "lay hold upon everything good thing" and that "all things denote there is a God." Perhaps I am reiterating that which I have already spoke of in a earlier post, but somehow I feel that I cannot quite give justice to the loveliness that surrounds and penetrates this life I live!
I am thankful for the Gospel! It brings me a joy and a tranquility that this world is utterly incapable of offering me. I know that Christ live perfectly, that He suffered for us all, and that He desires that we but believe in Him and follow in His paths.

another look at Matthew 5

Today I went visiting teaching with my roommate Lydia to another girl in our ward (I know, I know, I put it off to the end of the month but it all worked out really well this way). Anyway, the lesson this month was about gender and how essential our gender is to our eternal personalities and divine nature. At one point there was a quote from Sister Nadauld in which she spoke about women:
*
"Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. . . We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith."
*
As I read that quote, I thought of Christ's Sermon on the Mount and His discourse on the Beattitudes. He did not say, "Blessed are the unyeilding...Blessed are they that are rough...Blessed are the prominent..." No, He said:
*
"Blessed are the meek. . . Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness... Blessed are the merciful... Blessed are the pure in heart... Blessed are the peacemakers..."
*
Let us try out Christ's wisdom. It is indeed contrary to what the world has come to think that men and women should be like, but it is truth and it will make us more like Him. Above all, that's our goal, right?

for the beauty of the earth

I know that this may not have any direct relation to a specific scene or verse in the New Testament, but lately I have been so enchanted with the beauty of the world around me daily that I feel like I need to dedicate this post to the wonderful earth that Heavenly Father has created. Yes, there is a lot of ugly in the world, but heavens, there is so much pretty, much more than i can even begin to explain. this blog is meant to be dedicated to my beliefs and the things most dear to me - well, I believe in a loving Heavenly Father and not only do I hold Him dear, but His creations as well.

Whenever I hear, the song of a bird
Or look at the blue, blue sky
Whenever I feel the rain on my face
Or the wind as it rushes by
Whenever I touch a velvet rose
Or walk by a lilac treeI'm glad that I live in this beautiful world
Heavenly Father created for me.
